Steve Jr. and Chris Martinez grew up in the Bronx, New York, in a family where music came first. Their father, Steve Sr., a former Paradise Garage regular, put both boys in the church band before their teens, where they played percussion, keys and bass alongside much older musicians, across disco, soul and salsa.
By their mid-teens they were already behind the decks at legendary New York clubs like Shelter and Cielo. Too young to be there while alcohol was served, they often had to wait until after 4am to play. Their first release came out in 2007, with the support of Dennis Ferrer, who took them under his wing while they were still teenagers.
In 2011 they started their long residency at DC10 in Ibiza with Circoloco, and became part of the island's DNA. In 2013 they launched their own label, Cuttin' Headz, and in 2014 Mixmag named them the number one DJs of the year. Along the way they created soundtracks for Givenchy's fashion shows and worked with legends such as Louie Vega and Nile Rodgers, before headlining Coachella in 2025.
What makes them unique is the sound of their roots: Latin percussion and salsa rhythms under a New York house and techno groove, with a touch of Bronx hip hop. In this episode I dig into their discography to tell that story, from the church band to the biggest dancefloors in the world.
